October Resident of the Month
Cynthia Abbasi

I am a PGY-3 Obstetrics and Gynaecology resident training in Saskatoon! I am originally from Toronto and completed my medical training down under in Australia.
First and foremost, I feel incredibly grateful to be nominated for this award. One of the things I love most about residency is the people I get to share it with. My co-residents are what make me excited to come to work each day! Residency certainly has its challenges, but having an amazing team, supporting one another, and creating a positive environment makes all the difference.
I feel so lucky to be part of such an incredible specialty. From the excitement of Labour and Delivery to the challenges and rewards of Gynaecology clinic and the OR, I truly love what I do and feel so lucky to be in this incredible speciality.
Outside of medicine, I enjoy running, soccer, travelling, and exploring new coffee places!
Here are some of the reasons Cynthia was chosen as Resident of the Month (As quoted from the nomination letter):
"Dr. Cynthia Abbasi (PGY3) is a wonderful resource and mentor for the Saskatoon Obstetrics and Gynecology program. She has taken a special interest in the program’s first-year residents, going above and beyond to support their learning, development, and confidence."
"Most notably, Dr. Abbasi initiated an Obstetrics and Gynecology boot camp for incoming residents, working with faculty to promote consistent training in basic skills while creating a safe and supportive environment for new learners. She also provides personalized coaching and guidance, always making herself available to answer questions, talk through concerns, and help residents navigate the challenges of starting residency."
"We genuinely love working with Dr. Abbasi (our built-in cheer leader) and feel incredibly fortunate to have her as a part of our resident group!"
